What we do
Our academy provides exceptional dance training rooted in the classical tradition that prepares students for the future.
Studies show* that students with regular participation in the arts are much more likely to stay in school, perform better on SAT exams and obtain employment. According to America For The Arts, low-income students who are highly engaged in the arts are more likely than their peers with low arts involvement to have obtained gainful employment, completed college, and volunteered in their communities.
At Ballet Taos, we encourage a smart work ethic in young dancers with a focus on mindfulness and well-being which results in career longevity. We actively nurture a collaborative space for dancers to discover innovative choreography that integrates all genres of art and establishes a positive relationship with our community. We present dancers with the opportunity to perform a diverse repertoire of classical and contemporary work created to challenge them and exhilarate audiences.
Our outreach program, Project Relevé, exists to ensure the future of dance in our community by instilling an appreciation for the arts through progressive presentations in theaters and public schools for youth ages K-8. We foster collaboration with other educational organizations such as TISA and other nonprofits such as Stray Hearts and Taos Arts Council.
Our professional company promotes innovation, collaboration, and diversity through original performances of classical and contemporary dance designed to move audiences.
Ballet Taos dancers continue to train with world-renowned faculty to create relevant and inspiring work. We encourage our dancers to give back to their roots, mentor the next generation of dance, honor tradition, and advance progressive ideas in choreography and teaching. We are excited to have launched our Summer Company Project in 2022. In 2023 we will bring the Company on tour, seeding a lineage of dance in Northern New Mexico.
